• Take any prescribed medications.
• Gently bite the gauze that the dentist places to control bleeding. Change the pad if it gets soaked by blood, otherwise remove it after four hours.
• Use an ice pack to reduce swelling and pain. Use the cold pack for up to 10 minutes at a time.
• Be gentle with rinsing or spitting for the first 24 hours after extraction to avoid disrupting the blood clot.
• 24 hours after the procedure, rinse your mouth with a mixture of warm water and salt.
• Avoid using a straw for at least 24 hours.
• Smoking can interfere with healing.
• For the first day after the extraction, stick to soft foods like yogurt, pudding, soup, smoothies, etc.
• Brush and flood your teeth normally, but avoid the extraction site for a couple of days.
